Mary Abbott

Psychology

Community Served
I graduated high school and was unsure of what my path was going to be so I attended a community college for a Culinary Degree. I transferred after year 1 to MSU for a Bachelors in Psychology. After graduating from MSU I entered a difficult job market. I wasn't striking gold with my job search and struggled finding direction, so I reached out to the career services at Michigan State where I was told about MSUCAC. MSUCAC has been a saving grace program for me, and has helped me develop necessary skills for my future career journey. I have discovered through this program that I love working with high school students, and I plan on pursuing youth counseling after leaving this program. I am forever grateful for how this program has impacted my life and for the director, Manuel Rivera, who pours his life into this program and provides equal amounts of support to every advisor before, during, and after the program. I have never regretted my choice to be a part of MSUCAC, and I appreciate that the program has enabled me to make lasting connections with our young future leaders.

After graduating high school I had very little direction and started at Mott Community College for a culinary degree. While I still have a desire for creating food, I switched paths and transferred to Michigan State to pursue Psychology. I have a passion for mental health education and for student success. After graduating from Michigan State I started my journey with MSUCAC. I aim to attend Graduate school to pursue counseling after my chapter with MSUCAC comes to a close. I love being able to share my life experience with students to help them make post graduation decisions.

Fun Fact: I love to garden during the warm months! It's my form of self care.

Mary graduated from MSU in 2023.
